Great Grandma Northrup

My mom sent an interesting email me and my siblings today. I thought it contained some interesting information regarding my roots, so I asked her if I could share it here...

Hi Gang,

Thought that you might be interested to know that today, St. Patrick’s Day, is my Grandmother's birthday. Her name is Chloe Jane Northrup. She was a beautiful woman, with very high standards. She didn't like to come to G'ma Hammerham's house and find me with dirty nails. She always wore a corset, which had long strings that were laced in front until see looked like a pillar which couldn't bend left, right, up or down. She always had her hair done and her color of choice turned out to have a light lilac color, popular in the 50's. I loved her dearly and spent a lot of time with her. She was humorous and very mysterious. She drove a coupe car, always black, with a beautiful silver lady on the front hood, her skirt seeming to blow in the wind.

Interestingly enough, Grandma Northrup was a devoted Nanny to many new babies in the community. The rich women fought over her because she was the number one choice for their new babies and their siblings. She often brought her charges to Grandma Hammerham's house when I was a teenager. They were her pride and joy. She mentioned every visit that it made her nervous to take them in her car. I have inherited this quirk whenever we take the grandkids from state to state or just locally in our car.

In the last days of her life, she became a Christian by walking forward in her church, which for her was difficult, as she was so proud. It was a good sort of "proud," that has something to do with character and doing the right thing. I inherited my love for antiques from my Mom and Grandmother, and I have lived with many of them since I was a young child. They are comfort things that keep me close to my heritage, family members long gone, and to the past.

So, HAPPY BIRTHDAY Grandma Northrup! If only you could be here for just one day. You would love your family which wouldn't be here if it were not for you!!

LOVE, MOM

What a lovely way to remember Chloe Jane Northrup! I often wonder how much the saints who are now in heaven, can see God's eternal plan unfolding here on earth...

I am quite convinced that our prayers are timeless in God's eyes, so my prayers for my children & grandchildren will affect those who are yet to be born.

God's eternal plan must be a fascinating phenomenon to behold. Those who think heaven will be boring, must have a monotonous imagination!
