On the way home

Since some of the attractions in Niagara Falls were still closed for the season, we decided to stop in Buffalo on the way home and see a few things on the spur of the moment. The first place we stopped was the Cofeld Judaic Museum of Temple Beth Zion. (Link to Official website, Link to another good site with additional info and photos.)The museum has more than 1,000 Judaic artifacts dating from the 10th Century to the present on display, and is attached to a Jewish temple with INCREDIBLE architecture (and its all FREE!). Unfortunately, many of them were behind climate controlled glass in dimly lit rooms, so most of my pictures didn't turn out very good. There were all kinds of shofars, menorahs, old scrolls, holocaust artifacts, artwork, tapestries, etc in abundance. A lot of cool history in that place, and if you are into architecture or the history of the Jewish nation any (and you SHOULD be, they are GOD'S PEOPLE after all!), it would be a VERY worthwhile stop if you are ever in the Buffalo area.

This is a picture in the sanctuary, showing the 10 commandments in Hebrew on very large concrete pedestals, and the incredible stained glass window behind them.
The pipe organ had 48 ranks, and 4,000 pipes, and features TRUMPETS from the Lafayette Theater organ! I would have LOVED to hear those blow!

The second place that we stopped was the Buffalo & Erie County Naval & Military Park. It is home to the only guided missile cruiser open to the public (USS Little Rock), a destroyer (USS Sullivans), and a submarine (USS Croaker). It took us over 3 hours to tour it all, you get to see just about everything on the ships, so the admission fee was well worth it for the family.

I wonder what he's aiming at?

Being a pump guy, I probably appreciate the size of these francis vane propellers a little more than the average Joe.
On the bridge. I wonder where they're taking this ship?
To infinity, and beyond!
There was room after room filled with cots, that made one appreciate what our military does to secure our freedom. The quarters on the sub were VERY tight!
Here are the torpedo tubes on the submarine.
And this is what happens when your kids play around on a torpedo...

Um... Hope nobody lights a match in here...
This was the door to the Chaplain's quarters.
Who's that kid in front of the tank? Where does he get that corny sense of humor from, anyways?
Daddy, what does THIS dial do?
A view of the harbor from off the deck of the destroyer.
